Ottoman knit fabric has bold, rounded ribs that stand out from the surface, usually running across the fabric. The ribs form where extra courses are knitted on one needle bed, so the fabric rolls into ridges and gains thickness and body. The result is firmer and more structured than an ordinary rib, with less stretch across the width. Our 41 Ottoman qualities mostly weigh 250–320 GSM. Polyester/spandex is the largest single blend, and about four in ten contain viscose, usually with cotton or polyester, which softens the hand and improves drape. Horizontal ridges visually widen a garment and need matching at side seams, and the raised surface adds bulk at seams and hems.
Polyester/spandex leads our Ottoman range; viscose blends with cotton or polyester give a softer, drapier ridge.

Xiwen Zhang, our co-founder and CEO, recommends these Ottoman weights and blends for the structured, textured pieces our customers develop most often, drawing on our knit fabric experience since 2009.

STRUCTURE FOR A WIDE LEG
Choose 255–325 GSM Ottoman for wide-leg and straight trousers. Trousers are the most common use for Ottoman in our library, and the ridged body helps a wide leg hang with structure. A cotton/viscose blend gives a softer, drapier leg.

STRUCTURE WITH TEXTURE
245–280 GSM Ottoman works well for bodycon, shift and midi dresses. The ridges add texture to a solid colour, and a viscose blend lets a fitted dress follow the body without feeling stiff.

TEXTURE FOR A BASIC TOP
For fitted long-sleeve tops and layering pieces, start with 240–270 GSM Ottoman. A cotton/viscose/spandex blend softens the hand against the skin, while the ridges make a plain top look less basic.

A SKIRT THAT HOLDS ITS LINE
Choose 250–295 GSM Ottoman for pencil, A-line and midi skirts. The body keeps a pencil skirt smooth over the hips, and a matching top in the same quality makes an easy set.

HEAVIER RIDGES FOR SWEATWEAR
For crewnecks and relaxed streetwear tops, start with 265–335 GSM Ottoman. The deeper ridges give a sweatshirt a strong surface without print, and a cotton blend keeps the inside comfortable.

RIDGES THAT FRAME A JACKET
240–340 GSM Ottoman suits cropped knit jackets, shackets and bombers. The ridged body keeps fronts and collars in shape, and the texture makes a simple jacket shape look finished without trims.
Ottoman has bold, rounded ridges, usually running across the fabric, and is firmer with less stretch across the width. Rib has fine vertical ribs and stretches more. In our library, Ottoman mostly weighs 250–320 GSM and rib 210–280 GSM.
No. Polyester/spandex is the largest single blend in our Ottoman range, and about four in ten qualities contain viscose, mixed with cotton or polyester. Cotton/polyester blends are used for heavier streetwear.
Choose 255–325 GSM for trousers and 245–280 GSM for dresses. Go heavier for a wide leg that should hang with structure, and lighter for a fitted dress.
The ribs run across the fabric, so check shrinkage and stretch in the width direction as well as the length; polyester/spandex and cotton/viscose/spandex Ottoman at 250–320 GSM behave differently here. Add pilling on the raised ribs and washing fastness for dark shades.
