What Is Acid Wash Knit Fabric?

Acid wash knit fabric, also known as mineral wash, has a faded, mottled colour that imitates the look of a garment washed with stones or minerals. In our range the effect is created in fabric dyeing and finishing, so the washed look arrives on the roll and finished garments do not need a separate wash to get it. It is a colour effect, not a knit structure: most of our 15 qualities are single jersey, with a few rib, double knit and loopback bases. They weigh 190–320 GSM, mostly 230–275 GSM, and 100% cotton is the main fibre. The mottling is deliberately uneven, so expect variation within a roll and between lots, and approve against a bulk reference before cutting.

Does acid wash describe the knit structure?

No. Acid wash describes the faded colour effect. Most of our acid wash qualities are single jersey, with a few rib, double knit and loopback bases, so check the structure as well as the colour.

Will every roll of acid wash fabric look identical?

Acid wash is designed to lose colour on the surface, so the fastness values used for solid shades do not fit it. Set the values with the wash effect in mind and agree them on the approved sample. Shrinkage still matters: 100% cotton acid wash at 230–300 GSM is checked in length and width after the agreed wash.
