Tricot knit is a wrap-knitted fabric which is made by inter-looping the yarn in a tricot warp-knitting machine. Tricot fabric also known as lining is known for its unparalleled uses in home textiles. The fabric has a composition of natural and synthetic fibers. The fabric originated from France. The name of the fabric came from a French word called Tricoter which translates to “knitting.”

The journey started with hand knitting and after the Industrial Revolution, the fabric was mass-produced by industries. To this day, the fabric is known for its beauty and looks. The fabric has a mixture of both natural and artificial fibers. Most tricot fabric has a mixture of spandex and polyester, while silk, rayon, cotton, and wool are the commonly used materials. Nylon and spandex are the most versatile materials for this fabric. The fabric is lightweight and has amazing support. It has 190 GSM and it has good water absorption capabilities.

The knitting technique of the fabric adds a unique texture. It creates unique crosswise ribs on the fabric. The front side has a gorgeous zigzag pattern while the back side consists of rib patterns. It is made with a wrap knit fabric which needs to have a large amount of fabrics. It creates loops that are available in different sizes and ratios. Wrap and weft knitting is applied while making the fabric. This knitting technique enhances the durability of the tricot fabric. The normal fabric can create static electricity but the high-quality fabric does not. Its fabric is also highly flexible, soft, and comfortable to use. The loops and patterns can give it properties like a smooth and soft feeling while wearing.

To make the fabric manufacturing companies need to use a knitting machine. The machine requires 3 sets of yarn. The process increases the durability strengthens the fabric and adds rib textures. The machine keeps altering between wrap and weft knitting which works as the foundation of knitting. The fabric is engineered with crosswise ribs and longwise ribs. It helps to enhance the elasticity and stability of the fabric. All these procedures are achieved under high-speed knitting machinery. It is a crucial role to maintain the quality and properties of the fabric.
